Texas Bluebonnets

I LOVE the bluebonnets. They come out for just a few weeks at the beginning of spring in central Texas. They grow best along the highways where the water washes off the roads, and there is plenty of sunshine. Clayton was in no mood to cooperate for this photo shoot, but luckily my mom was able to get a couple pictures that turned out decently.

Below is a picture from the last time we were in the bluebonnets. This was taken two years ago, almost to the day. On a side note, while browsing through several of the pictures taken on this day, I noticed that Clayton is wearing a pair of jeans that Eli is now wearing. At this time Clayton was just a couple weeks from his first birthday, and Eli is now just a couple weeks from 4 months old. Poor Clayton, he really did wear 3-6 month clothes for almost an entire year.

Your bluebonnet pictures are fabulous! I'm so glad that had a safe trip to and from College Station with no mishaps. The children are so handsome! Have a wonderful, happy and blessed Easter Sunday!

Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome

Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is an abnormality in which the left side of the heart (left ventricle, aortic valve and aorta) is severely underdeveloped. The condition is congenital (present at birth).

When the left-side heart structures are underdeveloped, the right side of the heart must pump blood to both the lungs and to the rest of the body. In the womb, a baby's body receives oxygen-rich blood through a communication (connection) called the patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). After birth, the PDA spontaneously begins to close. An undeveloped heart cannot pump efficiently enough to support life and that is when a baby with HLHS gets very sick. Without treatment, the defect is usually fatal within the first several days of life.
